Know your rights
Get a lawyer and a support person before you answer any
questions. They know more about the criminal justice
system than you do. If a person with a disability answers
the questions, they might incriminate themselves. You
might be likely to go along with the police and what they
say, if you are alone with them. You need someone on your
side. They might trick you, and you need someone who will
help you figure out what the tricks are. Sometimes there is a
case of mistaken identity. If they get you by mistake,
you might need someone to help you prove it wasn't you.
