I would like to get back into the swing of things, now that the People First of Missouri Conference is over. We have made progress over the last seven months working on the People First of Missouri (PFMO) Positions Statement and creating a plan for 2021. I want you to know that PFMO is looking forward to working hard in the summer to have more great accomplishments before we go into the fall. PFMO will be educating self-advocates about their rights and guardianship. The priority of guardianship was talked about at our July 24th steering committee meeting. I know that the Coronavirus has challenged us all for over a year, but to be honest with you, we as People First of Missouri I am very humble about the work and accomplishments that we have gotten done during this COVID-19 pandemic. I want self-advocate to give themselves a big round of applause on a job well done. So self-advocates let's keep up the great work that PFMO is continuing to do for the state of Missouri. Have a wonderful summer. Here are those five priorities: 1. Transportation 2. Financial Wellness 3. Self-Determination: Being Respected as People and Allowed to Make Our Own Choices 4. Supporting Decision Making, Guardianship Education, and Awareness 5. Housing and being supported to Live where a Person wants to Live At the July steering committee meeting, we focused on discussing the Supported Decisions Making, Guardianship Education, and Awareness priority. Over the next couple of weeks, there will be a weekly online meeting where members will start the process of identifying what they want to concentrate on in each of the priority areas and begin to identify who to engage to be part of workgroups. The facilitator will use the LifeCourse Trajectory and Support star for these meetings. Beginning this fall workgroups are going to be formed for each of these priorities. Remembering Arnold Larson 1972-2021 On July 1, we lost a beloved friend and devoted member of the Boone County chapter. We will always remember Arnold for his positive attitude about life, his smiles, and his singing karaoke. In our chapter, Arnold was the expert on the local bus system and bus routes. If you had a question about which bus and route to take to get somewhere, he would know the answer. Anyone who knows him also knows he was Wonder Woman's biggest fan, and he also loved Reba McEntire. He was a Mizzou Tigers fan and he always walked with us in the MU Homecoming parade. Arnold will be missed! There will be a Memorial Service on Zoom Friday, September 17, 2021, at 1:30.
